Many times students cannot properly answer when asked “What is Stereoisomerism?” or “Define Stereoisomerism”. In this concise post, you’ll learn how to properly and correctly and completely define stereoisomerism.
What is Stereoisomerism?
Organic compounds with the same molecular formula and same structural formula, but differs in the three-dimentional (spatial) orientation / arrangement of the atoms or groups, give rise to differences in physical and chemical properties. These compounds are known as stereoisomers. This phenomenon is called stereoisomerism.
